Three Denver Sheriff Division deputies had been injured Tuesday afternoon whereas trying to restrain an inmate who was banging his head in an remark cell on the Downtown Detention Middle.

Two of the deputies hit their heads and a 3rd injured his wrist, Sheriff Patrick Firman mentioned at a Wednesday afternoon information convention. All three had been handled and launched at a hospital.

Reacting to criticism from the sheriff deputies union, Firman mentioned the incident was not associated to understaffing or overcrowding because the jail continues its ongoing reform effort.

The inmate, 24-year-old Shyheem Temple, had been banging his head on the door and wall of an remark cell and saying he wished to kill himself, Firman mentioned. Temple was being held on a $100 bond for shoplifting. He’s now dealing with three costs of second-degree assault to a peace officer.
